This term our topic is looking at zoo animals. Our topic started when we had a mysterious parcel delivered to our nature area. It turned out to be a monkey, sent from the zoo. We called him Sam and have really enjoyed showing him our kitten class activities and finding out more about him. It turns out he is a vervet monkey!
So far we have looked at many different books about animals including; Dear Zoo, Nom-fiction monkey texts, Monkey Puzzle and Never Tickle a Tiger- we are getting very good at spotting alliteration!
We have been writing bossy zoo rules, writing our own Dear zoo books and writing non-fiction captions. In our maths we have done some more work on ordering and recognising teen numbers, doubling, shapes and measuring and comparing height.
We have really taken an interest in where different animals come from, especially monkeys like Sam, we looked at a world map and talked about what the places were like, hot, dry or humid. We have matched baby animals to their mothers and talked about what our mums do for us.
We were very lucky to have a visit and talk from Milo's mum who is a zoo keeper and conservationist. We all learnt lots, including our teachers and it has made us even more excited for our upcoming zoo trip on Friday the 5th June.
Don't forget our class assembly is on Friday 19th June 2.45pm where you can here more about what we have been up to and we can show you some of our learning.
