We had a fire at forest school. Four children worked with Mrs Elkin to light it using flint and steel fire strikers. Then they put small snappy twigs on top. If the twigs were snappy it meant they were dry. If the sticks were bendy they weren't any good for the fire because they were too wet and would put the fire out.
When the fire had died down we toasted marshmallows. They were delicious!
We had to make sure that we were extra safe- we made a special fire circle that only the children helping were allowed in. We also had to make sure we had some water nearby in case the fire got out of control.
